THE BEST PLACES TO SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS
Although we cannot guarantee you will see the Northern Lights during your adventure, you can track the Northern Lights forecast.
IONS MAKE DIFFERENT COLORS
Oxygen atoms emit green and sometimes red light, while nitrogen is more orange or red.
THEY ARE VISIBLE FROM SPACE
Satellites can take pictures of the aurora from Earth’s orbit — and the images they get are pretty striking
OTHER PLANETS HAVE THEM
Auroras on either Jupiter or Saturn are much larger and more powerful than on Earth, because those planets’ magnetic fields are orders of magnitude more intense.
NORTHERN LIGHTS LOOK LIKE FIRE
The temperature of the upper atmosphere can reach thousands of degrees Fahrenheit. The density of the air is so low that a thermometer would register temperatures far below zero where aurora displays occur.
DID YOU KNOW!
There is virtually no light pollution in and around Voyageurs and in fact we are working with the Dark Skies Association to gain our own Dark Skies Designation, a designation that few places on the planet can have.
